Gunmen kidnap popular pastor in Akwa Ibom, demand N100m ransom

Suspected kidnappers have kidnapped a well-liked radio and tv evangelist, Apostle John Okoriko, in Akwa Ibom State.

Okoriko, the founding father of Solid Rock Kingdom Church (SRKC) at Ibekwe Akpan Nya neighborhood in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state, was kidnapped on Tuesday night, April 19.

It was gathered that the gunmen numbering about 5 stormed the church premises, which doubles as his nation home and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Witnesses informed newsmen that the gunmen invaded the residence of the pastor after scaling the again fence leading to a thick bush, about 10 minutes after the victim drove in along with his Lexus SUV and swiftly.

“After efficiently scaling the fence, the gunmen began shooting sporadically and forcefully entered his sitting room from the place they dragged the octogenarian, forcing neighbours to scamper for security”, a neighbour, Bassey Asuquo, informed newsmen.

He added that Police operatives had been contacted instantly and a few volunteer youths joined the Police to comb the bushes seeking Pastor Okoriko, to no avail.

In line with family sources, who would want to be recognized, the Apostle called the family himself with his phone to inform us his abductors demanded N100million before he may regain freedom.

Spokesperson of the state police command, SP Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident in a quick assertion on Wednesday.

“The Command has obtained a report on the incident and the Commissioner of Police Andrew (CP), Mr. Amiengheme Andrew, has ordered for a discreet investigation with a view to apprehending the suspects and to the victim unhurt.” the PPRO said.
